Michael Hickey is the Company Co-founder, Resident Mask Maker, Principal performer and Theatrical designer.
Hickey, a company co-founder, is a principal performer with Gateway Performance Productions. He is the resident mask maker at The MASK Center in Atlanta. His mask creations have twice won First Place and Best of Show at the National Maskibition in Eureka, California. His masks have been exhibited at galleries and museums including the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and the Iowa State Art Museum. Hickey has designed and performed with Gateway in television productions that have won one regional EMMY and two national CINDY awards. Hickey's work is part of a permanent collection at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C. He has designed masks for the Center For Puppetry Arts, Emory University Theater, The Atlanta Shakespeare Company and Daystar Native American Dance Theater. He has performed in 30 states in the U.S. and 12 foreign countries.
Hickey's training includes mime with Juki Arkin and Marcel Marceau, and dance with Jerry Burr of the Netherlands Dance Theatre and Valentina Litvinoff from Isadora Duncan's Russian School. Hickey's visual arts training includes study at the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Cooper School of Arts in Cleveland, and Georgia State University.
